About the Set

Koshi Earth Symphony: Set of 4

The complete Koshi Earth Symphony collection brings together all four voices — Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean. Each has its own tuning, hardwood resonance chamber, and sound character, but the four melodies were designed to work together. Play them individually, in pairs, in groups of three, or all four at once.

Each chime is handcrafted and tuned by ear at the foot of the French Pyrenees. Twelve hand-tuned steel rods are silver-soldered to a metal base inside a fine hardwood resonance chamber. Compared with the eight rods of Koshi's original 4 Elements collection, the twelve-rod design gives Earth Symphony a broader, longer resonance.

  • Mountain — E major · walnut · broad, grounded and contemplative
  • Forest — F# minor · oak · deep, layered and contemplative
  • River — G# minor · cherry · fluid and flowing
  • Ocean — pentatonic B major · maple · broad, deep and open

All four are tuned with reference to A=440 Hz and share the same harmonic framework, so their melodies remain coherent whichever combination you play. Each body is approximately 16 cm tall and 6.3 cm across, with an overall length of about 35.5 cm including the cord.

Hear each tuning on its individual product page, or browse the full Koshi chimes collection.

Note: Earth Symphony is tuned to A=440 Hz. Koshi's original 4 Elements collection is tuned to A=432 Hz, and the two collections were not designed to be played together.

Why Koshi?
Handmade in the French Pyrenees
Earth Symphony chimes are made by hand at the foot of the Pyrenees. Twelve steel strings are silver-soldered to a base inside a solid hardwood body and tuned by hand to A=440 Hz, so they sit in pitch with a piano, a guitar or a voice. Each chime is tuned to its own key, and Koshi tunes the four to one another so any combination plays together.
