Grotta Sonora Roller Mallet Pair

Grotta Sonora built this mallet for one job: rolling. Sold and shipped as a matched pair, the roller mallet carries a noticeably softer, lighter head than Grotta Sonora's standard small gong mallet — enough to absorb the impact and keep the click of the strike out of the sound. What's left is the gong itself.

That lighter head coaxes the upper partials forward. Worked in a steady alternating roll, a pair of these builds the windy, weightless shimmer that sits at the top of a gong's voice — the sound most players are reaching for when they pick up two mallets instead of one.

The long bamboo handle does much of the work for you. There's enough length to let the head's own weight carry the stroke, so a long roll stays even without wearing out your forearms.
