Grotta Sonora Medium Gong Mallet

The Medium sits between Grotta Sonora's small handheld mallet and the larger mallet built for deep gongs. It's designed for gongs 24" (60 cm) and larger, and is especially well suited to a 24" instrument.

Compared with the Small Gong Mallet, it's larger, heavier, and noticeably softer. That extra give is deliberate. On a larger gong, a firmer head can produce a metallic click at the point of contact. The softer head absorbs more of that initial strike, giving the gong a smoother, more controlled response with less sound from the mallet itself.

The head is still light enough to bring out the upper frequencies. With a lighter touch, it draws out the airy, wind-like textures and higher-frequency shimmer in the gong's voice. The 29 cm handle balances well against the weight of the head, making it comfortable to use through longer playing sessions.

It's especially well matched to Grotta Sonora's 24" gongs, including the King, Nickel Silver, and Titanium Blue Cosmo.
