Its sound is broad, deep, and open, with a long resonance that lets the notes overlap into a continuous wash of sound. Ocean uses twelve hand-tuned steel rods inside a maple resonance chamber, including four rods that repeat matching frequencies to add depth as the notes ring together.

Like every Koshi, Ocean is handcrafted and tuned by ear at the foot of the French Pyrenees. The steel rods are silver-soldered to a metal base inside the wooden chamber. Ocean is tuned with reference to A=440 Hz.

Hold the chime by its cord and turn your wrist gently for a flowing cascade of notes, or swing it slowly to bring out individual tones. It can also be hung indoors near a window or outdoors in a sheltered location where a light breeze can play it. The body is approximately 16 cm tall and 6.3 cm across, with an overall length of about 35.5 cm including the cord.

Ocean is one of four Earth Symphony tunings — Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean — designed to be played individually or together in any combination.
